Evolution of Design-Build
Over centuries, the talents of Architect and Master Builders were driven apart into functional silos. Silos famously kill efficiency and drive up costs.
Now, cost sensitivity and the need for better control over delivery schedules have led to the innovation of an integrated Design-Build delivery method.
In the 1970s, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) studied this transition and revised ethical guidelines to embrace it. Today, the AIA offers extensive documentation to support the Design-Build delivery method and AIAU offers a course for architects on the Risks and Rewards of Design-Build.
The Design-Build Institute of America was founded in 1993.
No longer a new concept, the Design-Build delivery method is on track to eclipse traditional construction methods in the next decade.
